Welcome to the 4DMS Center!
The 4DMS Center is a base of excellence in multi-scale materials science characterization, addressing real-world scientific challenges spanning length scales in 3D and 4D, from macro to nano. Our technical focus areas include microstructure evolution, crystallographic imaging and correlative tomography.
Congratulations to our Fall 2017 Graduates!
Best of luck to Shashank Kaira, Tyler Stannard, and Christopher Wong!
Professor Chawla Awarded ACTA Materialia Silver Medal
The Acta Materialia Silver Medal intends to honor and recognize scientific contributions and leadership from academic, industry and public sector leaders in the midst of their careers. The Silver Medal is established to recognize significant research contributions that are recent and timely.

FemtoTools Nanomechanical Testing System comes to Zeiss Auriga FIB-SEM
The FemtoTools system allows for the investigation of the mechanics of single crystalline materials, high temperature creep testing, and fracture mechanics in the micro and nanoscale.
Our story is just beginning…
Starting with our initial discussions with Zeiss, ONR, and OKED, in the Summer of 2015, the 4D Materials Science Center has finally become a reality. The delivery of the Auriga FIB was completed in June 2016. Paired with the installation of the Versa 520 with Diffraction Contrast Tomography in January 2017, the lab is now 100% functional and is ready for action.
